For the past few weeks, Lindsay Muns has visited every location of Tryon Medical Partners, meeting team partners and seeing how Tryon puts “stronger relationships, better health” into action. This “tour de Tryon” has given Lindsay a new perspective on the exceptional healthcare she has received as a patient for years.
Now as Tryon Management Group’s CEO, her role will be leading the business side of Tryon to help the practice grow and make a difference for more patients in Charlotte and beyond.
Those familiar with Lindsay have been inspired by her approachability and warm personality. Though Lindsay comes to Tryon with an impressive resume of healthcare business experience, she is down-to-earth and open to feedback from clinicians, support staff, and administration. If you have not met Lindsay, we’d like to give you the chance to get to know her, in her own words.
How did you get into your current profession?

I wanted to be a lot of things growing up, and it changed all the time. As a child, I wanted to be an architect because I learned about it on “Sesame Street.”
Fast forward to the start of my college career at Stanford University, I started taking pre-law classes to be an international lawyer. But by senior year, I really didn’t know if that’s what I wanted to do.
After graduation, I started working to increase my understanding of business in general. I took time to learn what I enjoyed and did well, versus what I did not enjoy and did not do well. On a whim, I moved to Washington, D.C., to take a healthcare job at The Advisory Board Company. This was my “aha” moment! I enrolled at the University of Michigan and earned a dual master’s degree in business administration and management, and public health. After graduate school, I worked at a healthcare system in Texas and the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
You have been in Charlotte since 2015. What makes it home?

I am originally from Long Island, just outside of New York. Throughout my life, I always moved for school or work, and my journey to Charlotte was no different. I was recruited here to be the vice president of OrthoCarolina/Transformant and we have loved living here ever since.
What makes Charlotte home is my family: my husband, Scott, two children (Lincoln and Hadley), and several pets, including two dogs, one cat, and multiple fish.
I like that Charlotte is unique. Because many people who live here are not from here, the openness to creating a sense of community is more accessible. I love the wonderful diversity here, and even the most professional settings feel comfortable. The culture is great and so is the food. Some people eat to live, but I live to eat!
How did you first hear about Tryon?
I had just started as the CEO of Charlotte Radiology in 2018. We had heard that clinicians were leaving Atrium to form this independent practice, so we reached out to Dr. Dale Owen to talk about ensuring continuity of care for our patients. He inspired us. It was impactful to see this bold, brave action being taken by amazing clinicians who wanted to control their own destiny.
What drew you to join the team?
When I got the call, I thought, “Wouldn’t it be a privilege to lead Tryon into the next phase of its evolution?” With the investment by TPG and the vision of increased access to more patients, we have the chance to drive healthcare costs down and quality up. That got me excited.
After talking to Dr. Owen and Dr. Bob Brownlee, I knew it would be a good fit for me personally, but I also felt my skill set could make a big difference to the greater community that I know and love. Healthcare is delivered locally. I am excited to be part of the transformation in Charlotte.
What does “stronger relationships, better health” mean to you?
Health is not just about your heartbeat and pulse. It’s about your relationships and your environment. Tryon is unique in that the entire team prioritizes relationships to get better outcomes. As a Tryon patient myself, I have always felt that deep level of care and understanding, and now I can see it as an executive.
